You can choose the operating mode of your inverter. You can choose between 4 modes:

  • Backup mode
  • Smart-grid mode
  • On-grid mode
  • Off-grid mode

You can find, below, an explanation of how the inverter works if you configure it in a particular mode.

Smart-grid mode :

The Smart Grid mode, which is the default mode, allows to optimize the self-production of the solar system by using the photovoltaic production to feed the electrical panel of the building or the house in priority, and then to charge the battery park with the excess of solar production. The electrical panel of the building will be fed in priority by the solar production, then the battery will provide the complementary power in case of insufficient PV production. Finally, if the solar panels and the battery are not able to provide enough energy, the public electricity distribution network will be called upon. This mode of operation increases the self-generation rate.

Backup mode:

The Backup mode allows the battery to be maintained in charge more than self-generation. This operating mode increases the battery availability rate and thus allows for a longer energy autonomy in case of a cut in the public electricity network. The photovoltaic production will be used in priority to charge the battery, then to supply the electrical panel of the equipped site. The electrical panel of the equipped building will be fed in priority by the excess solar production, then by the public electricity network in case of too low excess production.   The battery will take over only if the public electricity distribution network is cut. This mode of operation is recommended for projects located in areas with an unstable electrical grid.

On-grid mode:

The On-Grid mode is used in the case of an installation using an IMEON hybrid inverter without batteries. In this case, the energy generated by the solar photovoltaic system will be directed to the building's electrical panel and the surplus electricity will be injected into the public distribution network. The site's electrical panel will be supplied with solar electricity first, then the public grid will provide additional power if needed. In this configuration, the self-production rate is generally not optimal since the consumption profile of a building is rarely correlated with the solar production profile.

Off-grid mode:

The Off-Grid mode is suitable for the electrification of isolated sites (not connected to the public electricity distribution network). The rate of self-production on this type of installation, if the solar installation ensures the supply of the totality of the energy needs, is 100% (it is possible to consider an operation with a generator in complement). In this case, the solar electricity charges the battery first and then feeds the output of the IMEON hybrid inverter (electrical panel). The electrical panel is thus supplied in priority by the solar energy and then the battery provides the missing electricity if needed.
